As of December 19, 2022, eXtyles is compatible with 64-bit versions of Microsoft Office
Starting in 2023 you will receive 64-bit-Office compatible eXtyles as your annual update. If you have previously reached out to us to request an expedited update we will begin releasing those in the next few weeks. If you have not reached out to us but would like an expedited release please contact [email protected].
Although eXtyles as a 64-bit application marks a significant development update to the software, among other things enhancing its compatibility with MS Word, this update will largely not impact your daily use of eXtyles—the notable exception being your ability to install it with 64-bit Office. But there are some important points to keep in mind, which are addressed in the following FAQ.

FAQs
Will I have to update to 64-bit Office when I get my next eXtyles update?
No! eXtyles is now compatible with both 32- and 64-bit Office. Starting with build 5143 (December 19, 2022) eXtyles will automatically detect which version of Office you use and will automatically install the correct version of eXtyles.
I need to use 64-bit Office and have been waiting for this eXtyles update. What do I do now?
First, let us know so we can be sure you are on our list of expedited updates.
Then, you can make that change to 64-bit Office once you receive your eXtyles update. Be sure to perform the following steps in order:
- Uninstall eXtyles using Windows Control Panel and be sure the C:\Program Files (x86)\eXtyles directory is empty
- Update Office!
- Reboot your machine
- Install your eXtyles update (64-bit compatible) following these instructions
Be sure you are connected to the Internet when installing eXtyles.
What are the system requirements for 64-bit eXtyles?
The system requirements for 64-bit eXtyles are:
- Microsoft Word for Windows: 2016, Microsoft (Office) 365*
- Microsoft Windows: 10, 11
- 1024 × 768 screen resolution (minimum)
- Intel Core i5-9 (9th Gen), Intel Xeon (2nd Gen), or equivalent or faster (we recommend systems less than four years old)
- 8 GB RAM minimum; we recommend 16 GB Ram, or twice the minimum Microsoft specification for any combination of Windows and Word)
- 500 MBytes free HD space to install
*Office must be installed locally on the machine on which you’re working. eXtyles can not be used with Word in a Web browser.
We also strongly recommend that users have only one version of Word installed on their workstation.
NOTE: Inera is sunsetting support for Office 2010, for which Microsoft discontinued support in October 2020. Although eXtyles will continue to work in Word 2010, starting in June 2023 Inera will no longer provide technical support for eXtyles running in Word 2010.
Will the way I install and uninstall eXtyles change?
No. The install and uninstall processes for eXtyles are unchanged, including unattended installs and uninstalls.
However, going forward you will be required to follow our documented process for uninstalling eXtyles using the Windows Control Panel. This process has always been strongly recommended and is likely the process you have been using, but it is now a necessary step.
Can I use 64-bit eXtyles on the online version of Office?
No. 64-bit eXtyles remains compatible only with desktop versions of Office; that is, Office must be installed locally on the machine on which you’re working. It can not be used with Word in a Web browser.
eXtyles remains compatible only with Windows versions of Word.
