eXtyles® User Group Meeting 2006
Inera was pleased to welcome more than 35 attendees to the 2006 eXtyles User Group
Meeting on October 13 in Newton, MA. Representatives from 18 organizations met to
discuss eXtyles and current challenges and trends in electronic publishing workflows.
The full-day session began with introductory remarks from Inera’s CEO, Bruce Rosenblum,
and a summary of eXtyles improvements and new features by Inera's Senior Product Manager,
Elizabeth Blake. Many of these were a direct result of suggestions
made at the 2005 eXtyles User Group Meeting.
For the midday session, the meeting divided into breakout groups, during which attendees
suggested enhancements to eXtyles. These roundtable discussions
resulted in a number of exciting ideas.
Brooks Hanson, Deputy Editor for Physical Sciences at the American Association for the
Advancement of Science, spoke about the use of the NLM DTD
at AAAS, highlighting the many benefits and challenges arising from this new production workflow.
Bruce Rosenblum of Inera wrapped up the meeting with a demonstration of Word 2007,
describing the new user interface, citation and equation tools, and document format, and
focusing on how these changes will affect scholarly publishers in the short term and over
the next several years.
