Inera was pleased to welcome more than 30 attendees from 5 countries
to the first eXtyles User Group Meeting on June 3 in Boston. The Inera
team benefited greatly from the feedback provided by the users, who in
turn enjoyed a unique opportunity to discuss common concerns with other
editors and publishers.
The half-day session began with introductory remarks from Inera's founder
and President, Irina Golfman, and a brief history of eXtyles presented by Paul
Bozuwa, President of Dartmouth Journal Services. These were followed by two
customer presentations on workflow challenges and the use of eXtyles in
journal publishing. Paul Reekie, General Manager of CSIRO Publishing,
discussed CSIRO's early adoption of the NLM DTD. Martha Soule, Senior Support
Specialist at The New England Journal of Medicine, talked about NEJM's
transition from FrameMaker to InDesign.
Bruce Rosenblum, CEO of Inera, presented a summary of Inera's new products,
eXtyles SI and eXtyles refXpress. He
also discussed the integration of the eXtyles reference-processing tools
with Editorial Manager, Aries Systems' online manuscript submission and
tracking system. Bruce then gave a synopsis of new features and updates to the eXtyles
desktop software, including improvements in document activation, Word
hyperlink preservation, reference processing, PubMed and CrossRef warnings,
and citation matching.
The rest of the meeting was devoted to breakout group discussions
and a general overview of user requests for new features and improvements.
