What's New in eXtyles® ?

Automatic Reference Correction

A sophisticated new feature in the eXtyles suite of reference processing tools, Reference Correction has the ability to automatically insert missing information and to correct erroneous information in author-supplied reference lists.

Reference Correction is an extension to eXtyles reference-processing modules that automatically edit bibliographic references to preferred editorial styles and add hyperlinks to online databases such as PubMed and CrossRef. When a reference in a manuscript contains an error, these hyperlinks provide quick access to reliable online sources, saving time by eliminating the need for author queries or manual searches.

The new eXtyles Reference Correction enhancement further reduces editing time and dramatically improves accuracy by automatically replacing any incorrect or missing reference elements, such as authors or issue numbers, with metadata retrieved from PubMed and CrossRef.

The tool can be configured to run in one of two modes: Add or Add and Merge.

Add Mode

Add mode adds data missing from the original reference.

Example before Reference Correction:

Example after Reference Correction:

With data from CrossRef, eXtyles has filled in the missing year; note that customers also have the option, as with this reference, to have the missing issue number automatically added to conform to the most recent edition of the AMA style guide.

Add and Merge Mode

Add and Merge mode adds data missing from the original reference and intelligently merges any revisions with existing data, providing warnings where significant discrepancies are found.

Example before Reference Correction:

Example after Reference Correction:

With data from PubMed, eXtyles has corrected the author list and, in the article title, has changed the term "intracellular" to "intercellular" and added the word "pigment."

Reference elements are added or restructured according to each organization's preferred editorial style, vastly reducing the time spent editing and correcting references.
