The eXtyles® Menu Appears on the Add-ins Tab, but the eXtyles Ribbon Is Missing (Word 2007 and 2010)

For all users of Word 2007 or 2010, eXtyles should be accessible via an eXtyles tab on the Word ribbon rather than as an item on the Add-ins tab. However, we are finding that enabling eXtyles requires some unexpected steps due to how security is managed, particularly in Word 2010. Please follow these steps to correct the problem:

(1) Close Word

(2) Navigate to the directory containing the template Normal.dotm, which is usually "C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates"; if the template is not there, its location may be found through the following path:

Office Button → Word Options → Add-Ins → Manage: Templates → Go... → Templates → Attach...

(3) Delete Normal.dotm (note that this may reset some user preferences)

(4) (4) Delete (or ask someone in your IT department to delete) the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data" for Word 2007 or "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Data" for Word 2010

(5) Add both the Word Startup directory (usually "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Startup" for Word 2007 or "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Startup" for Word 2010) and the eXtyles directory (usually "C:\Program Files\eXtyles") to the list of trusted locations at:

Office Button → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings... → Trusted Locations → Add new location

(6) Make sure your macro settings are set to "Disable all content except for digitally signed macros" or looser at:

Office Button → Trust Center → Macro Settings

(7) Restart Word

These steps should cause the eXtyles tab to be displayed and fully functional. We consider this to be a workaround until a means to have Word reliably prompt users to accept signed content that is launched at startup is available. If these steps still do not resolve the issue, please contact Inera.
